Narracan Falls

West Gipsland, Victoria

Narracan Falls is located a little over 15 minutes from the town of Trafalgar, on the Princes Highway between Warragul and Moe. Signage to the falls could be better but once you are on Falls Road you'll soon arrive at a narrow one-lane bridge, the car park entrance is on your left just past the bridge.

You'll probably hear the waterfall as soon as you open your car door, it's just a short walk from the car park. There are a few picnic tables but no toilets or other facilities in the area.

At around 8m high it isn't a huge waterfall but water does flow all year round, As with all waterfalls, it's best to visit after good rains. What I like most about this particular spot is that it is so easy to access. A short stroll from your car has you standing right at the top of the fall. You'll see a well worn track that will lead you to the base. It's possible to get quite close to the water.

After you have finished shooting the waterfall, keep walking downstream along the track. It can be quite muddy but you will find some very nice scenery along the way, including a beautiful old oak tree that has hollowed out. I'm sure you'll be able to find an interesting composition using the hole in the tree.

Once you arrive back at the falls follow the path upstream for a short distance towards the bridge. Narracan Creek offers plenty of photographic opportunities besides the falls.

If you enjoy panoramic views keep an eye out for Mount Speed Lookout near Trafalgar.

It is a bit over an hour to Noojee from Narracan Falls. If you are feeling energetic you could loop around and also get to Toorongo Falls and Amphitheater Falls in a day trip.
